Happy new year !

DSC 0257 Happy new year !

Well, what a great and interesting year 2010 was. Again I had to work with some fantastic couples in the most wonderful settings. One or two new ones spring to mind – Horsted Place and Bluebirds restaurant in the Kings Road, Chelsea and Hagley Hall. And it was good to re visit some of my favourites again – Syon Park, Kelmarsh Hall, Cambridge Cottage, Monkey Island……Wonderful memories !

And inbetween this I managed to grab a short break to visit my good friends and colleagues – Dorota and Michal of Whitesmoke in Warsaw back in August. Great company, photography and food. Thanks guys !

It wasn’t all plain sailing though. Back in November, straight after my penultimate wedding of 2010, we suffered a major burglary with all my camera gear stolen plus some computer gear. Fortunately I had enough time to sort out insurance and get completely new gear in time for my last wedding of the year in Sydney. As for all my wedding images these were still on my hard drives which they did not steal. Even if they had taken this I have them all backed up on dvd’s which are kept securely at another location. And if these are stolen then I can retrieve the high res images which are backed up online. And before I do all this I keep the memory cards in my trouser/jacket pockets until the images are processed. So pretty safe all round.

But then they struck again whilst I was away in Australia ! They say that there is a good chance they will strike again and this proved to be the case. But I had all my gear with me so they only manged to steal 3 computers which are very old and worth hardly anything. Nevertheless it is a set back and a constant worry. But as I type we are having a sophisticated alarm system installed plus a huge safe which will be bolted to the floor. In the meantime all my gear, computers etc… are locked away safely elsewhere.

So it was a great way to finish 2010 with Teeks and Nicks wedding in Sydney. I consider it the ultimate endorsement in my work to place all that trust in me and to fly me to the other side of the world, so many thanks Teeks and Nick. And everything went very smoothly without any hiccups or problems with customs, airlines etc….I’m really delighted with how the images have turned out and will hope to have them ready hopefully by the weekend or early next week so watch this space. We also had a family holiday straight after the wedding and the image above was taken at one of my favourite locations – Manly Beach.

So I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all my clients this year and previous years as well. I consider myself very fortunate to do a job I love and to work with great people in such fantastic locations. So thanks again.

I hope you all had a very merry Christmas and would like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2011.

Warbrook House, as you would expect from a Devere Hotel, is a stunning wedding venue on the Hampshire and Berkshire border and is very local to Neil Palmer Photography. Everything at Warbrook House, from the fittings to the food, is about quality and luxury. The rooms are all contemporary modern with a styling that is sympathetic to the history of the venue. The food is outstanding, offering a cuisine that befits the venue, modern, full of flavour and character. The rooms are beautifully decorated, they exude class and sophistication and ensure that your guests can enjoy your wedding in perfect luxury.

More from Sydney

sydney 088 More from Sydney

Now my holiday begins !

I did Teeks and Nick’s amazing wedding at the weekend – 12 hours on the saturday followed by a couple more on the sunday morning at their brunch party. And then it was back to Sydney to photograph Kate and Ben around the harbour area with the Opera House and Harbour bridge as backdrops. I’m hoping to show these soon if I get time. Tomorrow we’re off to Melbourne via the back roads and will be touring around a bit so may therefore be offline for a while. Anyhow I got some great shots of Kate and Ben despite the Opera House being cordoned off with cranes and barriers everywhere as well as a makeshift stage right in front of the main entrance. This was in preparation for the visit of the world’s most famous (and richest) woman – Oprah Winfrey !

This shot above is one of my favourites so far and sums up Australia very well. Photography is all about expecting the unexpected and being ready for it. This is when you get your best shots. I took this while waiting for Kate and Ben to arrive, saw the aborigine guy and waited for a passer by, ideally a typical looking Aussie, to fill the right hand side. Quite often strong, contrasty light can be a nightmare to work with but here it works very well.

That’s me done for now. I’ve just backed up Teeks and Nick’s photos to a portable hard drive, burnt everything to dvd and have even posted copies back to my studio. Nothing left to chance.

As promised here’s some favourite shots from Teeks and Nick’s pre wedding shoot. I’ll be photographing their wedding this weekend in Bowral so we managed to squeeze in a quick shoot at one of their favourite spots in Sydney. We headed out to Nielsen Park early in the morning to catch the good light and later moved round to Milk Beach (I love this name) to get the Sydney skyline in the background. Feel free to add any comments below,

005 Images of Sydney

Greetings from down under !

Some of you may know that I’ve travelled to the other side of the world to photograph my last wedding of 2010. This will be at the weekend so I’ve got several days to acclimatise and get over my jet lag. Here are a few images I did earlier today, literally just after arriving. I did’nt hang around for long as I was pretty tired from the flight plus the fact the sun was pretty strong and I’d forgotten my sun block !

I’ll post some more later this week hopefully from Tika and Nick’s engagement session. Enjoy

Warbrook House Wedding 012 Another testimonial

Today I received this really lovely e mail from Marchien and Nick who’s wedding I photographed back in October at Warbrook House. Thanks Marchien and Nick for you kind words below….

‘Neil

What can we say, you truly did an amazing job of capturing some truly inspired moments of our wedding day. Having sat and looked through the entire set it really took us back; not only did you manage to snap moments that have made us laugh but there are also those that made us cry. You truly captured what we’d hoped you would.

Words can’t express how thankful we truly are for your keen eye and skill at taking such beautiful and inspired photos.

Thank you once again so so so much.

Nick & Marchien’

Pre wedding shoot in Reading Berkshire

027 Pre wedding shoot in Reading Berkshire

Here are some favourites from a recent pre wedding shoot. These are very popular and is something I offer all of my wedding couples as a way to get to know each better. It also gives them an idea of how I shoot and gives me an idea of how they are in front of the camera. So a win win situation all round.

I will be photographing Michala and Dave’s wedding at Silchester House next March and today they braved the sub zero temperatures and came over for their session. It was sooooo cold – I had difficulty finding the controls on my camera ! So we couldn’t hang around for long and ended up doing a few shots in my studio.

Abigail and Rob’s wedding at Sir Christopher Wren in Windsor

Sir Christopher Wren Wedding 054 Abigail and Robs wedding at Sir Christopher Wren in Windsor

Slightly later than usual here’s the highlights from Abi and Rob’s wedding at The Sir Christopher Wren Hotel in Windsor. Later than usual because the day after their wedding I was burgled with ALL of my camera gear taken. Fortunately, as with all my weddings I keep the memory cards seperate and download them straight away to my laptop which is kept elsewhere. Not only that but the images are stored at high res online.

Anyway enough of my woes as I’m now back up and running. So many congratulations to Abi and Rob who had a lovely intimate wedding despite the cold grey day, something they are not used to in Melbourne ! It was great to meet up again with Abi’s family as I did her sister Sarah’s wedding a few years ago at the same venue. Here are some favourites from the day below and of course the complete set can be seen here. You’ll need a password which can be obtained from Abi and Rob. Enjoy !

Marchien from Holland marries Mr Holland from England ! Right, once you’ve got your head round that then we can start.

Anyway many congratulations to Marchien and Nick who had a beautiful wedding at Warbrook House in Hook, Hampshire. This is one of my favourite venues with a great mixture of modern and traditional which makes it ideal for photography especially with such a huge amount of space and panoramic views. And as you can see we had beautiful autumn weather with the golden colours,  so I deliberately did the portraits just as the sun was dipping to get some flare and make the most of the warm light.

Here are some of my favourites below from the day so please feel free to leave any comments below. The complete set is also available here from which you can browse, watch a slideshow or order prints and digital files securely on line. The password is Marchien’s surname followed by Nick’s, all lower case with no gaps. Enjoy

Many congratulations to Katherine and David who got married last month at Wellington College in Berkshire.

The day started with some prep shots at their home just 5 minutes away. Once at Wellington College for the ceremony the photo opportunities are endless together with some beautiful autumnal colours. And then it was on to the Crown and Cushion in Blackwater for the reception by means of a 1949 Bedford Charabanc This is a great venue, quite dark but looks great with just candlelight.

The complete set is now ready here and you can obtain the password from Katherine and David. Below are some favourites from the day and please feel free to add any comments.
