Gilly and Tommy’s Wedding at The Bel and Dragon
I’ve photographed hundreds of weddings in the Reading and Berkshire area but this was a first for me. The Bel and Dragon is a fairly new establishment located on the banks of the Kennet and Avon Canal close to Reading town centre. It is actually a former biscuit factory which has been refurbished to maintain all its old charm making it an ideal venue for weddings.
The day started with me capturing the arrivals at St Peters Church in Caversham. This is a very picturesque church which overlooks The Thames by Caversham bridge. After a traditional ceremony we all headed down to the lawns on the banks of the river to take some formal family shots. This was then followed by the throwing of confetti before Gilly, Tommy and myself boarded a small boat which was to take us and a very scenic tour of The Thames right up to The Bel and Dragon.
Natural Wedding Photography
Once on board the boat I took lots of natural and informal photos of Gilly and Tommy as they enjoyed the scenic views along the Thames and The Kennet and Avon Canal. At the same time the guests were making their way by car to The Bel and Dragon. After about an hour we arrived to be greeted by the guests at the waterfront before heading inside for drinks and canapes.
Evening Wedding Reception
Once everyone had settled in the speeches started – Tommy, Gilly’s Dad and then the best man before the wedding breakfast was served. The Bel and Dragon is renown for its excellent cuisine and I can certainly see why. This was some feast ! After this I managed take Gilly and Tommy outside to take some natural and informal portraits by the canal with The Blade (a well known and very distinct Reading building) as a backdrop. By the time we arrived back the guests were enjoying drinks on the terrace as the sun was setting, a perfect end to the day. The cake cutting was then followed by the live band (friends of Gilly and Tommy) starting their set and for Gilly and Tommy to begin their first dance. There was some pretty energetic dancing late into the evening and to cap it off there were more drinks and bacon butties !
This was an immensely enjoyable and memorable wedding and you can relive it by browsing some of my favourite images below. Please feel free to add any comments. Enjoy.
